Grade 6 & 9 PATs and Grade 7 & 8 Common Exams
As we approach the first set of exams this week, we want to share some key information regarding upcoming common exams and Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs).
Provincial Achievement Tests (Grades 6&9)
- Alberta students in Grades 6&9 write Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs):
- Grade 6 – English Language Arts and Literature, Mathematics, Social Studies
- Grade 9 – English Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science
- All PATs will be written on the new provincial Digital Assessment Platform.
- All personal mobile devices (e.g. cellphone, tablet, laptop or smartwatch), must remain in lockers during exams and other instructional time.
EIPS Common Exams (Grades 7&8)
- Elk Island Public School students in Grades 7 and 8 write common exams for all core courses (English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Science).
- All personal mobile devices (e.g. cellphone, tablet, laptop or smartwatch), must remain in lockers during exams and other instructional time.
Schedule
- Students are expected to arrive at school for regular school hours. All exams will start promptly at 8:00 am (not 9:00 am as per our FTV calendar) due to our earlier bell schedule.
- Regular classes and instruction will continue after each exam.
- Exam dates and times can be found on the Fultonvale School Calendar website.
REMINDER: 2024-25 school fees
School fees for the 2024-25 school year are posted on the PowerSchool Parent Portal. All fees are due within 30 days of being posted. Throughout the year, fees are often added to cover the costs for various activities, such as field trips, extracurricular activities, and late, damaged or lost textbooks.
To access your fee information, simply log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal and go to “Student Fees.” There you can view fees and pay them online using a Mastercard or Visa credit or debit card. Make sure to monitor your child’s account on an ongoing basis.
For more information about school fees, waivers and payment deadlines, visit eips.ca/schools/fees. And, if you have questions, think there’s an error or need help creating a PowerSchool Parent Portal account, contact your child’s school directly before the summer break.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Pursuant to Board Policy 23: School Fees and Administrative Procedure 505: School and Administrative Fees, EIPS will forward any unpaid 2024-25 fee amounts to a collection agency. To prevent this from happening, remember to pay your fees before Aug. 31, 2025.
OPPORTUNITY
Red Shirt Day
Red Shirt Day takes place on May 28—the Wednesday of National AccessAbility Week. Red Shirt Day is when people across Canada come together and wear red in schools, workplaces and spaces everywhere to create a visible display of solidarity and show their support for persons and families who are living with disabilities. Encourage staff and students at your school to wear red in support of accessibility and inclusion on this day and start a conversation about ability.
Hot Lunch
Upcoming Hot Lunches & Order Deadlines:
- Wednesday, May 28 – Subway & Jugo Juice (Order by Friday, May 23)
- Thursday, June 5 (Tentative) – McDonald’s (Order by Saturday, May 31)
- Note: This lunch is tentative as it may conflict with the Track & Field rainout date. If the event is rescheduled to this day, Healthy Hunger will issue full refunds to all who ordered.
Important Reminders:
As we head into field trip season, please double-check your child(ren)’s schedules before placing lunch orders in advance.
Please log into your Healthy Hunger account to confirm your orders. We’ve had a number of students looking for lunches that weren’t ordered—we don’t want anyone disappointed!
Lunch Pickup for Siblings:
If you need your child’s lunch sent home with a sibling, please email Carrie at ceckersley78@gmail.com the day before, or by 9:00 AM on the day of hot lunch.
To help our volunteers manage lunch distribution efficiently, we ask that students do not come to the concession room looking for a sibling’s lunch. Carrie will ensure it’s delivered to the appropriate classroom to be taken home.
Thank you for your continued support of our hot lunch program and fundraising efforts.

2024-25 EIPS Annual Feedback Survey Results Report
The results are now available for the 2024-25 EIPS Annual Feedback Survey: For Parents and Caregivers conducted in March. Thank you to all families who took the time to share their feedback with the Division. The survey included a series of questions related to the three priorities outlined in the EIPS Four-Year Education Plan: 2022-26 (Year 3).
- Priority 1: Promote growth and success for all students
- Priority 2: Enhance high-quality learning and working environments
- Priority 3: Enhance public education through effective engagement
The overall Division results represent close to 2,400 responses from parents and caregivers across the Division.
The survey results for Fultonvale Elementary Junior High have helped us identify the following areas of strength and opportunities for growth.
Areas of strength:
- Welcoming and Caring Environment
- Students (94%), Parents (100%), and Staff (100%) all report that students feel safe and are treated fairly at school.
- Strong consensus that Fultonvale is a safe and welcoming school.
- Staff Collaboration and Care
- 100% of staff feel students are treated fairly and the school is a safe place to work and learn.
- Strong agreement that staff care about students and collaborate effectively.
- Student Support
- 91% of students feel they are cared for by one or more adults.
- Parents agree that staff demonstrate care and support.
- Learning Supports
- All stakeholder groups believe students are encouraged to do their best and are supported in their learning.
- Strong positive ratings in access to resources and supports when students experience challenges.
Opportunities for growth:
- Student Voice and Engagement
- Only 44% of Grade 9 students reported finding schoolwork interesting and that they were engaged in their learning
- About ¼ of students report that they aren’t given opportunities to be meaningfully involved in decisions and that they aren’t informed of their achievement and progress
- Suggests a need to enhance student agency, especially for those who may feel disconnected.
- Parent Communication and Involvement
- Parent participation in the survey was relatively low, which may suggest limited engagement or communication gaps.
- While parents reported high levels of satisfaction, further engagement strategies could strengthen the home-school connection.
The feedback gathered in the survey will help our school and the Division measure its progress toward meeting the priorities and goals outlined in the EIPS Four-Year Education Plan and develop strategies to better serve students and the wider community moving forward.
