May 19 Fire Wire

"No Horse Town"

Happy Tuesday!

Bravo! to our junior high drama production actors for their incredible performances lasts week! We would like to extend a big thank you to Mr. Buchert and Ms. Lovlin who dedicated many hours to planning, rehearsals and directing our students and providing them an opportunity to shine on stage!

There are many exciting things happening in and around the school as we head into the final six weeks of the school year. From curricular field trips and special in-school activities to final exams and year-end celebrations, there’s lots to stay informed about. Be sure to check the Fultonvale website calendar regularly to stay up to date with everything coming your way.

Looking for a meaningful way to get involved in the Fultonvale community? Today, Tuesday, May 20, we invite all parents and guardians to attend our FSAC and School Council Annual General Meetings. The FSAC AGM begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by School Council at 7:00 p.m. Both meetings are held in-person in our Gathering Space, with a virtual option available as well. These AGMs are a great opportunity to learn more, share your voice, and consider joining one of the open executive positions.

In this week’s Fire Wire, you'll also find important updates on junior high communication, exam preparation resources, and more.

It's a great week for a great week!

OPPORTUNITY

Preparing for Final Exams

June is a month that we focus on exams with the goal of a strong academic finish to the 2024-25 school year. Part A exams and PAT’s are on the horizon and with that, we have been preparing our students on exam writing and gaining experience on the specific platform they will be writing each respective exam on.

Alberta Education has implemented a new Digital Assessment Platform (DAP) for all PAT and Diploma exams. Fultonvale and Elk Island Public Schools has a plan to give our students time to practice with the DAP to be prepared for their PAT's in June.

Families can also check out the new DAP through the Alberta Education website:

https://www.alberta.ca/provincial-achievement-tests;

  • then clicking on Digital tests and exams;
  • students can practice navigating the assessment platform or use the practice exams.

The DAP will only be used for PAT's for our grade 6s and 9s. The grade 7 and 8 Common Exams will NOT use DAP.

PAT and Grade 7 and 8 Common Exam dates are all posted on our website calendar. The first set of exams start next week with English Language Arts and Literature Part A exams.

Hot Lunch

Upcoming Hot Lunches & Order Deadlines:

  • Wednesday, May 14 – Panago & Confetti Sweets (Order by Friday, May 9)
  • Thursday, May 22 – Boston Pizza (Order by Saturday, May 17)
  • Wednesday, May 28 – Subway & Jugo Juice (Order by Friday, May 23)
  • Thursday, June 5 (Tentative) – McDonald’s (Order by Saturday, May 31)
    • Note: This lunch is tentative as it may conflict with the Track & Field rainout date. If the event is rescheduled to this day, Healthy Hunger will issue full refunds to all who ordered.

Important Reminders:

As we head into field trip season, please double-check your child(ren)’s schedules before placing lunch orders in advance.

Please log into your Healthy Hunger account to confirm your orders. We’ve had a number of students looking for lunches that weren’t ordered—we don’t want anyone disappointed!

Lunch Pickup for Siblings:
If you need your child’s lunch sent home with a sibling, please email Carrie at ceckersley78@gmail.com the day before, or by 9:00 AM on the day of hot lunch.
To help our volunteers manage lunch distribution efficiently, we ask that students do not come to the concession room looking for a sibling’s lunch. Carrie will ensure it’s delivered to the appropriate classroom to be taken home.

Thank you for your continued support of our hot lunch program and fundraising efforts.
