June 23 Fire Wire

Once a Firebird, Always a Firebird

Happy Monday!

One final Fire Wire for the 2024-25 school year!

Last week was excellent! We held our Junior High Awards Assembly, Track Day Concession and Lunch on the Land. Additionally, our final Provincial Achievement Tests were written by our Grade 6 and 9 students.

This week we look forward to celebrating our fabulous Kindergarten and Grade 6 students, holding our Elementary Track Meet, and enjoying our final day with activities and food trucks. Information related to Wednesday's Food Truck and Activity day below.

**Please do one final check of your school fees account to ensure any outstanding fees have been covered prior to the last day of the school year.**

Thank you for all your support this school year. Thank you for entrusting us with your children every day. We care for each of them, and it is our privilege to teach them. I hope each of our families has a wonderful and safe summer.

We look forward to seeing our students and families for Meet the Teacher on Wednesday, August 27 from 4:30 - 6:00 pm. We look forward to welcoming students back for their first day of school on Thursday, August 28.

It's a great week for a great week!

ACTION

REMINDER: 2024-25 school fees

With the end of the school year approaching quickly, we ask all parents to please check your Parent Portal student(s) account to ensure all outstanding fees have been paid.

Some fees were added later in the school year eg. Grade 9 Farewell. Other fees may be added for lost or missing textbooks or library books up to June 25, 2025.

To access your fee information, simply log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal and go to “Student Fees.” There you can view fees and pay them online using a Mastercard or Visa credit or debit card.

For students leaving Elk Island Public Schools, please note, your Parent Portal will be inactivated in August. Payment for students leaving EIPS would need to be completed before July 31, 2025.

For more information about school fees, waivers and payment deadlines, visit eips.ca/schools/fees. And, if you have questions, think there’s an error or need help creating a PowerSchool Parent Portal account, contact the school office directly before the summer break.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Pursuant to Board Policy 23: School Fees and Administrative Procedure 505: School and Administrative Fees, EIPS will forward any unpaid 2024-25 fee amounts to a collection agency. To prevent this from happening, remember to pay your fees before Aug. 31, 2025.

Lost and Found

Have you seen the multiple tables covered in Lost and Found items. There are shoes, pants, shirts - anything you can imagine is probably in there!  Come to the front doors and look through the stuff to find your missing items! They will be packed up for donation by the end of the day on Wednesday!

Last Day Activities and Food Trucks!

On June 25, 2025 it is our last day together at Fultonvale! We will be enjoying activities together outside (weather permitting) and welcoming food trucks back during our picnic lunch!

The schedule for the day is as follows:

  • 8:15-10:15 am Activities around the school for Grades 1-6 (*correction from initial publication that included kindergarten students. The last days for Kindergarten students are Monday, June 23 (KM) and Tuesday, June 24 (KT)))
  • 10:30am Celebration Assembly
  • 11-11:15am Students sent out for picnic lunch and food truck service
  • 1pm Food Truck Service Ends

*If you are joining us at assembly/lunch and planning to take your students home with you after, please ensure you SIGN OUT with your child's teacher at the end of assembly or whenever you arrive that day.

There are only a few main lunch food trucks available, so please plan with your students accordingly. Below we’ve included information about the different food trucks joining us, including menus and payment options.

Many serve smaller yummy snacks and drinks and some have large food items. Please plan to send lots of extra snacks or a full proper lunch with your student if they are choosing to bring money only for some treats. In younger grades it is always helpful to send money in a ziploc bag with choices outlined for them so teachers can help out as much as possible if you will not be enjoying lunch with us.

The following food trucks will be here:

  • All payments accepted
  • Tacos, empanadas, Mexi fries $8-$15
gonuts4donuts

INFORMATION

Junior High Awards Assembly and Recipients

At Fultonvale, we live by the values of Heart, Excellence, Attitude, and Teamwork—the foundation of our H.E.A.T. motto. These values extend far beyond the classroom or athletic field. They show up in the quiet moments when students persevere through a tough assignment, lend a hand to a peer, step into leadership roles, or simply show up each day with a positive mindset and a willingness to grow.

Our junior high awards recognize students who have shown these qualities through achievement, character, and participation. Whether through the arts, athletics, leadership, or academics, these students have demonstrated what it means to be committed, compassionate, and curious learners.

While we did not present Honours or Merit awards —since final exams are still ahead— here is the criteria for these recognitions, as a reminder that continued effort matters:

  • A Merit Award is presented to students who have achieved at least a 75% average in their four academic core subjects, have passed all complementary subjects, and have received satisfactory effort and achievement ratings.
  • An Honours Award requires an 80% average or higher in core academics, with the same expectations for complementary courses and learner effort.

On Friday, we presented a number of awards that highlight different aspects of student achievement:

  • Complementary Course Awards – celebrating both achievement and active participation in courses like Art, Drama, Foods, French, Construction Technology, Physical Education, and more.
  • The Heart of Learning Award – for students who consistently demonstrate compassion, positivity, and a willingness to support others—staff and peers alike.
  • The Sarah Gartner Character Award – honouring a student who embodies Sarah’s legacy of kindness, strength, and unwavering commitment to her values, passions, and community.
  • Valedictorian – recognizing the student with the highest academic achievement in Grade 9.
  • Athletes of the Year – awarded for outstanding participation and performance in our interschool athletics program.
  • And finally, the Student of the Year Award – our most comprehensive recognition, given to a student who excels across academics, extracurriculars, and leadership, and truly reflects our H.E.A.T. motto.
