What Is Parent Council?
What does parent council do? Do I have to volunteer? Why do we raise money? These are just some of the common questions we hear from parents.
Every school in Alberta is required by law to have a parent council. Fultonvale Parent council a great source of educational information about happenings in our school as well as the district and province. Our principal, Ms. Nam, informs us of events and changes within our school and/or district. These can be a simple as upcoming field trips, speakers or presentations as well as new information relating to budgets, education programs, staff changes and general information.
Parent council meetings are the greatest way to be informed of happenings in our school and district; but the most wonderful part is the friendship and laughter. We are definitely not all work and no play. Our Christmas and year-end luncheons are always well-attended and provide a fun afternoon of good food and conversation. Meetings are filled with much information and many laughs.
Parent Council does not have any obligation to fundraise. All money raised goes directly back into our school and supports our students. This includes our hot lunch program which is very successful and well received by students, parents and staff.
Previous funds have helped to purchase new smart boards, gym scoreboard, school sign, many field trips and speakers, a new stove for the cafeteria, recess sports equipment, technology software/hardware and library shelves and many other items.
We invite everyone to attend a meeting and provide their insight and opinions. The more ideas and opinions we have at meetings the more successful we can be as a council and staff to provide the best educational experience for our children and their future.
If you have any questions, comments or concerns please give Barb a call at 780-467-4225.
We look forward to seeing everyone at the Annual General Meeting on September 15 at 8pm following the "Meet the Staff".
